We’re all given 24 hours a day to spend our time. No more, no less.
Yet some people seem to breeze through their days with a carefree grace. If we didn’t know better, we might suspect they have H.G. Wells’ time machine hidden in their homes. Of course, they don’t – but they are tuned into another secret: If you don’t make time for what matters, you’ll be making excuses instead.
This is an all-too-real struggle for most people. Scripture tells us that making time to rest, recharge and reflect is part of our spiritual walk with God. Yet how many times have you thought that modern life gets in the way? Somewhere along the way, we’ve come to glorify busyness instead.
If you’re feeling overscheduled, overworked or overwrought, this message is for you.
Especially at the beginning of a new year, it’s exciting to set goals. We’ve heard from many members and know our ECCU community is thinking about ways to live more intentionally. Maybe you share some of their intentions, such as reaffirming your commitment to your faith, prioritizing relationships or exercising regularly.
One thing we can learn from our friends who fit what matters most into every day is this: There’s no better time than now to create meaningful moments by ditching busyness and pursuing purpose.
In fact, we’ve been thinking about you as we evolve our services. This month, we’re showcasing our mobile banking app. It’s just one way we’re committed to helping ECCU members live out their values – instead of living out lives standing in bank lines or searching for an ATM. With our mobile banking app, you can conduct the most routine financial transactions in just seconds from your smart phones, tablets or computers.
Which got us thinking, what else can you do in a few seconds to change your life and focus on what matters most? And with that, we’ve put together some ideas on how you can get back to what matters most in seconds:
- Ask for help when you’re overwhelmed
- Tithe to your church
- Replace salty snacks with fruit on your kitchen counter
- Tell the truth
- Uninstall social media apps or any app that distracts you
- Sleep in your gym clothes so you don’t have an excuse when you wake up
- Call your parents
- Ask your children about their day – and really listen
- Tell your spouse why you love being married
- Memorize your favorite Scripture verse
- Let go of fear
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator
- Scan your budget before you make an impulse purchase
The list is endless. The only limitation is your commitment to eschewing the things that don’t bring you closer to what matters most – God, your family, friends, community service, personal health and wellness, financial stability, education and whatever else you deem in line with your values and faith.
We hope you’ll consider ECCU as your partner on your journey toward an intentional life. Our way of helping out is by providing convenient mobile and online banking – all designed to save you time so you can power through your to-do list and focus on people and priorities.
