Senior Pastor and Do Something Church Founder
Miles McPherson is a man radically transformed by God and the senior pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, one of the largest churches in the United States.
Two years into his pro football career as a defensive back with the San Diego Chargers, Miles was battling a drug problem and living an immoral lifestyle. That’s when he gave his life to Jesus Christ, and never looked back. Miles began to work as a Bible teacher, youth pastor, and speaker, developing a track record of appealing to diverse audiences, large and small.
He founded the Rock Church in 2000. More than 3,300 attended the first service in Montezuma Hall at San Diego State University in what is believed to have been the largest opening service in the nation’s history. The congregation grew quickly. Named by Outreach magazine as one of the country’s fastest growing churches, the Rock currently has more than 12,000 people attend weekly services at its two campuses.
Under Miles’ leadership, the Rock Church committed to making a biblical impact on their community, and decided to do something. By the end of 2011, they had provided over 700,000 volunteer hours and saved the city of San Diego an estimated $2 million. The church continues to serve the city through community service projects.
Tommy Moseley is focused on establishing Pervasive Hope outside church walls with people from every walk of life. Tommy was born and raised in the Midwest. After partying his way through the University of Nebraska, he started to get in trouble with the law and moved to Las Vegas. In 1992, Moseley walked away from crime, drugs, and alcohol after moving to San Diego for a fresh start. He was saved in 1997 and was called into full-time ministry by 2000 when he met Miles McPherson, founder of the Rock Church in San Diego, and became a pastor overseeing the Rock’s outreach ministries.
Under his leadership, the Rock Church has launched 120+ outreach ministries supporting an average of 21,000 people in the San Diego area and witnessing an average of 175 decisions for Christ each month. Moseley is also a mixed martial artist, holding a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and has over 20 years of competitive experience in multiple styles. His wife's name is Grace, which he says, “It would have to be.” Together, they have two sons named Sawyer and Hunter.
Director of Volunteer Development and Rock Your City Events
Debbie Smith’s passion is to equip leaders and volunteers so they can contribute their God given talents to serve others in need. Before joining the Rock Church’s staff, she volunteered for 13 years with the leadership team of Miles Ahead, a youth evangelism ministry, planning youth crusades in the United States and internationally. Today, Debbie serves as the director of volunteer development and Rock Your CityTM, the Rock’s quarterly church-wide community events.
Debbie and her leadership team have been blessed to serve alongside a total of 12,850 volunteers who donated 187,298 hours with an estimated savings of $3.5 million to the city of San Diego over the past 3 years. After working for the Rock Church the last seven years, Debbie’s honored to work in her position that fully aligns her gifts with her life passion to see the body of Christ equipped and serving the lost the way God uniquely designed them to do good works (Ephesians 4:11-16).
Debbie has also been a career coach for almost 20 years. She enjoys spending time with her family, being an aunt and a great aunt, traveling to experience God’s creation, and of course, being a Texan Longhorn fan: Hook ‘em!!
