ECCU Vice President Receives Leadership Award

BREA, California—Mark Jones, a vice president and senior banking consultant for Evangelical Christian Credit Union (ECCU), was awarded the Richard M. Johnson Award for Outstanding Service on Behalf of Members in the Credit Union Industry at the recent WesPay (Western Payments Alliance) 2009 Payments Symposium in Long Beach. Each year, WesPay recognizes leaders in the financial services industry who have contributed to the advancement and best use of the nation’s payment systems.

Jones has been involved with WesPay as a director since 2003. In addition as rules committee chair, he works closely with the WesPay staff, committee volunteers, and board to analyze the impact of ACH rule proposals on WesPay's members, which total 1,000 banks and credit unions in the western U.S. He has represented the interests and perspectives of banks and credit unions at a national level on payment system issues of key importance to all financial institutions.

A WesPay announcement of Jones’ award said “in addition to the insight on payments matters that Mark contributes, his incredibly positive outlook on life has been a true inspiration to the volunteer leaders and staff of WesPay.” He has spent 21 years at ECCU, which provides banking services to some 2,000 ministries nationwide and 3,500 missionaries in more than 100 countries.

The Richard M. Johnson Award is named after the former credit union executive who was among the first to develop electronic payments services for credit unions. Johnson is the former president of Western Corporate Federal Credit Union (WesCorp), has served on the boards of most national credit union organizations, and was a member of the WesPay board of directors for 10 years.
