ECCU Membership

Who Can Join?

Like every credit union, ECCU is a financial cooperative. Members qualify to join because they share a unifying common bond. For ECCU members, this bond is direct engagement in a qualified evangelical ministry. To become a member of our Christian credit union, you must be affiliated with a qualified evangelical ministry.

Here’s how you can qualify for ECCU membership:

Through your Family

You qualify if you are the spouse, child, parent (including in-laws), sibling (including in-laws), aunt, uncle, cousin or grandparent of an existing ECCU member or employee. All you need is the member’s name and birth date to complete your online application.

Through your Church

You qualify if you attend one of the thousands of qualified evangelical churches, including over 100 denominations. Just provide your church name, city, and state on your online application.

Through your School or University

You qualify if you are a student or alumni of a qualified evangelical school. This includes any school affiliated with groups like the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities or the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).

Through your Work

You qualify if you work at a qualified evangelical church, school, or ministry.

Missionaries

Here’s the legal version: You qualify if you are a full-time worker with a qualified 501(c)(3) mission sending organization that primarily focuses on sharing the gospel and building the kingdom. Or more simply, if you're a full-time missionary. Simply provide the name of the organization or use your org-affiliated email address to complete your online application.

Membership gives you access to practical financial resources focusing on biblical principles as well as tips on fundraising, travel, international banking, and more. You also get to use banking accounts and services designed specifically for missionaries with reduced fees to save on international transactions. In 2013 our missionary members saved almost $800,000 in fees based on the national average.

Lifetime Membership
You don’t have to give up your membership even if you change jobs, organizations or retire from field-work. Just maintain an open account and you’re a member for life!

Membership Questions

How do I apply?
Individuals can apply for membership and open an account by using our online application. Click here to get started. Current members can open additional accounts by logging in to online banking and clicking the New Account text under the Service Request tab.

What is a member-owned credit union?
Like every other credit union, ECCU is a financial cooperative. At a bank, you’re simply a customer. At a credit union, you’re a part-owner of the cooperative. It’s your financial institution.

ECCU’s board of directors provides overall direction to the credit union. The supervisory committee monitors credit union policies and practices to protect member accounts. Both groups are comprised of volunteer ECCU members who are elected to make decisions that are in the best interests of all ECCU members.

How do I know my money is going to ministry?
ECCU deposits are used for various purposes, all of which directly or indirectly help to fuel ministry. Some deposits are used to fund loans for expanding churches and other ministries. Some deposits are invested and earn a return that, along with revenue we earn from our financial services, enables us to do things like make grants to ministries ($4.58 million since 2005) and offer low-cost banking services to over 3,500 missionaries serving around the world.

If I am no longer a missionary, can I still be a member?
Yes, once you’re a member, you’re always a member. Even if you leave or retire from missionary work, you can keep your ECCU membership and your missionary accounts and benefits.

If I leave my church, school, or job, can I still be a member?
Yes, once you’re a member, you’re always a member. Even if you switch churches or jobs, you can keep your ECCU membership.

Is there a membership fee?
Yes, but the fee to join ECCU is only $5 for individuals and $25 for ministries and businesses!
